“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which will function as a prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” classic novels (and Peter Jackson’s films), is airing on Amazon Prime Video.
The series premieres on Thursday, Sep. 1 at 9 p.m., despite the official release taking place on Friday, Sep. 2.
It is important to note that “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is an Amazon exclusive, meaning it will only be available to those signed up for Amazon Prime Video.

You can sign up for Amazon Prime on the streaming service’s website.
It costs $14.99 per month after a 30-day free trial if you wish to sign up in addition to the features of Amazon Prime, or $9 if you only want a subscription to the video service. The series will be available to all subscribers to the service.
The streaming service also features a sizable amount of licensed content you won’t find anywhere else. Modern classics like “Suits,” “House” and “Psych” are all standouts, as is “The Americans,” an all-time great series Prime somehow held on to when FX moved the bulk of its content to Hulu. Subscribers to the service can follow different channels, receive special deals to rent or purchase new movies and much more.
