Southern Mediterranean film databaseGuided path to writing a feature film10/08/2022 - Let's take a closer look at four projects presented by the Locarno Pro co-development program for films from Austria, France, Germany, Italy and SwitzerlandCineuropa had access to four exciting projects presented by Alliance4Development (A4D), Locarno Pro's co-development program for films from Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.During the three days of the event, which took place from 5 to 7 August, the representatives of the 11 selected projects had the opportunity to receive feedback from international experts on their presentations, to participate in individual meetings with potential partners and to take part in seminars and networking events.A Song That Slays - Mo Scarpelli (Italy / United States) Produced by Luigi Chimienti and Alessandro Amato for the Italian company dispàrte and co-produced by writer and director Mo Scarpelli (El Father Plays Himself [+ see also: film review trailer film profile]) for US Rake Films, A Song That Slays is a drama set in rural Kenya. Then follows 15-year-old Chesang, who has been forced to marry a much older man in exchange for the cattle her nomadic family desperately needs. The girl asks the yomöt, the god of the wind - whom everyone fears, but with whom she has a secret friendship - what she can do to escape. The god tells her to find a pink flower that will reveal her fate.Chesang's search is hampered by the violence and anger of her community, which suspects of her power and her bond with yomöt.When Chesang finally finds the flower, she discovers it is a poison, to be used on whomever she wants.Commenting on the project's participation in Locarno Pro, Scarpelli told Cineuropa: "We came to Locarno to meet potential European co-producers as we continue to develop the film, and we came out of the three days spent at A4D with co-production options. very solid, but also with a warm solidarity from the other participants in the project, and with many creative ideas to make non-traditional co-productions. This film was born to explore the fear, chaos and power that lie within a girl. It's my first fiction feature film after shooting mostly documentaries, because magical realism is the most honest way to portray this particular secret that's within us. "Molecules - Vero Cratzborn (France) To save her sister from a degenerative disease, Diane undergoes the first clinical tests of an experimental molecule. In the lab, she finally finds a bubble of freedom. But it could be dangerous to cut the umbilical cord with her twin. This is the premise of Véro Cratzborn's new film (La forêt de mon père [+ see also: film review trailer interview: Véro Cratzborn film profile]), produced by Thomas Lambert for the French company Tomsa Films.Lambert describes it as "a love story about merger and loss, where salvation becomes a trap".Furthermore, Cratzborn explained that: "Anchored to reality, Molecules will slide into weirdness and an intimate, brutal and direct body horror. [...] It will combine fear with humanity and emotion. I will explore another dimension of reality through macro and microscopic images, to invite us to change our point of view through telescope and hybridization ".Orphée - Stéphane Riethauser (Switzerland / France) With an estimated budget of 3 million Swiss francs, Riethauser's new work (Madame [+ see also: film review trailer film profile]) follows young Leo, who is hired to dance Orpheus all opera and falls in love with the famous choreographer Matthias Stern. The creative team describes it as "an intimate drama that celebrates the mysteries of love"."Locarno Pro was a wonderful experience. We first met our French co-producer Thomas Lambert [of Tomsa Films] at the co-production village in Les Arcs, and now at A4Development, we think we have finalized our team to move forward in the financial process of production. The meetings were all interesting and useful. [...] We were really happy to participate in the initiative for the conclusion of the development phase of our project ", said Véronique Vergari, producer of the Swiss company Luna Films.See the exclusive artwork below:Element - Mariko Minoguchi (Germany) Jorgo Narjes for X Filme Creative Pool (the studio behind titles like Amour [+ see also: film review trailer interview: Michael Haneke film profile], Cloud Atlas [+ see also: film review trailer making of film profile ], The White Ribbon [+ see also: film review trailer interview: Michael Haneke film profile], Good Bye Lenin!
