Russian troops are intensifying their attacks on key infrastructure across Ukraine. They plan to weaken major cities, and stop Western arms from playing a crucial role in the resistance.

Officials at the Kremlin say weapons and ammunition from abroad are being supplied to Ukrainian soldiers by train. They say Russian troops have destroyed six railway electric power substations in the west and east.

The mayor of Lviv in the west says Russian missiles hit substations and waterworks facilities on Tuesday night, injuring two people and affecting the power supply.

Russia is also intensifying its offensive in the Kharkiv region, but Ukrainian forces say they have recaptured a village. And the Russians are once again attacking a steel mill in the besieged city of Mariupol.

United Nations officials are helping civilians evacuate the facility as part of a deal with Moscow. The first group arrived in Zaporizhzhia on Tuesday. Ukraine still controls the city.

One woman said, "My baby has not slept, and keeps crying day and night. Everybody was suffering from a cough, runny nose and headache. It was very difficult."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decried the fresh assault in an area still teeming with civilians. He said, "The Russian military has broken the agreement, continued massive air strikes on steel mills and launched a full-scale attack.

Zelenskyy says 156 civilians have been evacuated from the mill so far. Hundreds more are said to still be inside.
